About the Dentists of Designer Smiles

Marcus D. Haggard

Before becoming a dentist, Dr. Marcus Haggard’s college education led him around the country, from Lamar University and Lee College to the University of Hawaii. After graduating from the University of Texas, Dental Branch in 1968, Dr. Haggard practiced in Seabrook, Texas for ten years.

In 1978 he decided to move his office from Seabrook to its current location in Clear Lake City, where he proudly practices alongside his daughter, Dr. Ann Fishel.

Dr. Haggard understands the benefits of ongoing education and as a result is constantly seeking out the most up-to-date techniques and methods in the dental field. He has attended multiple postgraduate programs including those at the renowned Pankey Institute in Florida and the Boston Institute for Advanced Dental Studies.

In addition to reaching these educational milestones, Dr. Haggard communicates with and learns from his peers through membership in the following professional organizations:

• Texas Dental Association
• American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry
• Houston District Dental Society

While affiliated with the Houston District Dental Society, Dr. Haggard has served as the Ethics and Jurisprudence Chairman and has been honored with a place on the Peer Review Committee.

Ann E. Fishel

Dr. Ann E. Fishel has succeeded in distinguishing herself at every level of her education. While attending Centenary College of Louisiana, she earned scholarships in both softball and cross country and was a member of the pre-med honor society. After graduating Cum Laude with a B.S. in Biology in 2000, she pursued her D.D.S. degree from Texas A & M Baylor College of Dentistry. During this time, she belonged to the Delta Sigma Delta Professional Dental Fraternity and won an award for outstanding achievement in periodontics.

Since joining her father’s practice in May 2004, Dr. Fishel maintains a connection with the other professionals in her field through membership in organizations such as:

• American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry

Heather Darcey

Dr. Heather Darcey grew up in Missouri City, Texas where she attended John Foster Dulles High School. She later attended Texas A&M University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Science. Dr. Darcey earned her Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Baylor College of Dentistry.

While attending dental school, Dr. Darcey served as a tutor to fellow students and as a mentor to high school students interested in the dental field. She also conducted research in the field of craniofacial growth and development. Dr. Darcey was on the dean's list for all four years of dental school and was recognized by the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists as an outstanding student.

Dr. Darcey currently lives in Friendswood and has been in the dental field for over 10 years. She is an active member of ADA, TDA, GHDA and Seattle study club. Dr. Darcey is a certified Invisalign® provider and worked in the Beta test office for the Invisalign® product. She can provide a broad range of dental procedures, including cosmetics on patients of all ages. Dr. Darcey is passionate about children’s oral health and education.

About the Staff of Designer Smiles

Nancy

Nancy Klaus, R.D.H., B.S. comes to our practice with thirty-three years of dental hygiene practice experience. As a graduate of the University of Texas Dental Branch (Houston), her clinical experience encompasses a number of dental practice settings. Dental hygiene education, hospital dentistry (VA Hospitals in Houston and Phoenix, AZ) and clinical periodontics have been the primary areas of experience in Nancy's career. She loves the challenge of designing individual patient care plans to maximize the patients' oral health. Nancy's primary "domestic" focus revolves around two fabulous teenagers and one "awesome" dog. Involvement in her church's Singles Ministry rounds out personal time away from her patients.

Johnita

Every practice requires administrative expertise to function smoothly. We are proud to have Johnita supervise this aspect of our office. With over twenty years of clinical as well as managerial experience in dentistry, she has functioned in this capacity with us for the last eleven years.

Johnita assists our patients with maximizing insurance plans and creating financial plans to achieve the best utilization of your "health-care dollar". In addition, she is our 'multitasker', keeping the computer systems, appointment schedules and business functions 'up-and-running' efficiently.

Family is the primary focus in Johnita's life. She and her husband of 24 years enjoy watching their baseball "ace", Clinton (15) play his favorite sport. When she is not at the ball parks, Johnita loves to cook for family and friends and indulge in the occasional shopping spree.

Jessica

Jessica is the newest addition to our team. A 2005 graduate of Clear Brook High School, she explored an interest in health education at the Texas School of Business. After serving an internship (Certified Dental Assistant) with our office, we are delighted Jessica chose to begin her professional career with us. She plans to continue her studies in dental health by pursuing a career in dental hygiene.

Jessica is single and interested in all forms of dance and music. Her real "passions" are watching football and shopping with her girlfriends.

Scott

Scott has been with our team for the past two years. He is the "go-to-man" for "on-the-spot" office needs. His versatility and all round 'Can do' attitude is just the solution for those unforeseeable times when the unexpected happens.

Scott enjoys working chair side with patient with both Dr. Haggard and Dr. Fishel. He also keeps our hygienist on track by covering a multitude of duties that allows her to focus on direct patient care. Scott supplies the 'attention to detail' that provides the critical component for a smooth running clinical day.

When it is time to go home, he switches 'hats' and swings into his other job. Scott is the proud Dad of a toddler, Madison. It goes without saying that he "has his hands full".

Phyllis

Phyllis comes to us with thirty five years experience in clinical and academic dental hygiene including the former Colgate Oral Pharmaceuticals Professional Sales Representative in Houston. She served as mentor and field sales trainer for numerous Colgate representatives. While with Colgate, Phyllis received the Rookie of the Year Award in 1996, five Hall of Fame Awards, three Sales Elite Awards and the Colgate President's Award in 1998.

Phyllis holds a BS degree in dental hygiene from the University of Tennessee in Memphis. She and her husband, Harold, are parents of four grown children and six grandchildren. She is an ADHA member and is active in the Greater Houston Dental Hygienists' Association.

She serves in her church and in her spare time enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, antiquing, and photography.

Lacresha (Cresha)

Cresha has been a registered dental assistant for seven years. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in cosmetic and implant dentistry to our practice. Cresha hails from Agana, Guam and qualifies as our "globetrotter" having lived in the Philippines, Japan and both US Coasts. She had four brothers and sisters.

Cresha and her husband, Quincy, have been married for nine years. They have two beautiful daughters, Deysha and Layla. The family attends Ephesus Baptist Church and in their spare time, can be spotted at the nearest bowling alley or catching the latest movie.
